Living with Jawbone Loss?
If any of this feels familiar, you're not alone. There's a path forward, and we're ready to walk it with you.
Why Waiting Makes Things Harder
Bone Continues to Disappear
Your jawbone shrinks faster after tooth loss, making future treatment more involved.
Treatment Gets More Complex
More bone loss means larger grafts, longer healing times, and additional procedures down the road.
Costs Climb Over Time
What requires a simple graft today may need extensive rebuilding later.
Implant Options Narrow
Less bone limits where implants can be placed, reducing the choices available to you.
Facial Changes Deepen
Sunken cheeks and shifting jaw structure become more pronounced the longer you wait.
Daily Habits Stay Restricted
Months pass while you keep avoiding favorite foods and adjusting around the problem.
Acting now means a simpler procedure, faster recovery, and more options on the table.
How Bone Grafting Restores Your Jaw
Bone grafting is a procedure that adds new bone material to areas of your jaw where density has been lost. The graft works as a scaffold, encouraging your body to grow fresh bone tissue around it over several months. This rebuilds the foundation needed to support dental implants (permanent tooth replacements) or to stabilize your bite after extensive tooth loss.
At Borderview Family Dental, we use 3D CT scans to plan each graft with precision, mapping exactly where new bone is needed before treatment begins. Our approach to bone grafting in Blaine, WA combines digital planning with conservative, patient-focused care so the result fits your long-term oral health goals.

What to Expect from Your Bone Graft
Consultation and Planning
You'll meet with one of our dentists for a thorough exam, which includes 3D CT scans of your jaw. This imaging helps us see exactly where bone is missing and how much grafting material is needed. We'll talk through your goals, answer your questions, and review the path ahead so you feel fully informed before anything begins.
Preparing for Treatment
Before the procedure, we'll review what to expect on the day and discuss comfort options that fit your needs. If sedation is part of your plan, we'll walk through the details together. You'll leave this visit with clear pre-procedure guidance and the peace of mind that comes from knowing exactly what's next.
Placing the Graft
On the day of your graft, we'll make sure you're completely numb and comfortable before getting started. The graft material is gently placed into the area where bone is needed, then secured so it can begin merging with your existing bone. The site is closed up carefully, and you'll head home the same day to begin healing.
Healing and New Bone Growth
Over the next 4 to 6 months, your body builds fresh bone tissue around the graft, creating a stronger foundation. You'll have check-ins along the way so we can monitor progress and confirm everything is integrating well. Most patients are able to keep up with their normal routines during this healing phase.
Ready for the Next Phase
Once your jaw has fully rebuilt itself, you're ready for the treatment your graft was preparing you for, often dental implants. We'll take new scans to confirm the bone is strong enough, then move forward with your final restoration. The result is a foundation built to last and a smile that feels solid again.

Recovery After Your Bone Graft
First 24-48 Hours
During the first day or two, expect mild swelling and some tenderness at the graft site. Most patients manage well with prescribed medication or over-the-counter pain relief. Resting, sticking to soft foods, and using ice as recommended go a long way toward keeping you comfortable.
First 1-2 Weeks
Swelling fades over the next several days, and most daily activities feel normal again within a week. You'll stick to softer foods for a bit longer and follow gentle hygiene guidance around the graft site. By the end of week two, many patients feel fully back to themselves.
Long-Term Healing
Underneath the surface, your jaw is doing important work for the next 4 to 6 months as new bone forms around the graft. You won't feel this happening day to day, but routine check-ins let us confirm everything is on track.
